MapPoint 2010 on a Flash Drive

November 4th, 2009 · Uncategorized

We now have MapPoint 2010 available on a Flash drive for customers who do not have a DVD drive or access to one. Typically if a customer does not have a DVD drive and needs to install MapPoint 2010, I will tell them to go to a computer with a DVD and either copy the DVD contents to a shared network drive or to a 2GB+ USB Flash drive and usually this works, but I anticipate there will be people who would prefer to just receive it on a Flash drive in the mail from us so they don’t have to go through the hassle of tracking down another computer with a DVD drive, etc. Typically we will request $10 ($5 for the USB Flash drive and $5 for USPS Priority shipping) to send this to a customer. If you haven’t ordered yet and know you would like this, just contact us at website@mp2kmag.com to let us know of your special request.

September 16th, 2009 · Uncategorized

The announcement of MapPoint 2010 was mentioned on Slashgeo a couple days ago…

“New features include map settings to choose display details, expanded pushpins, and the ability to send routes to your GPS device. This release is fairly significant, so as I normally do, I figured it would be wise to step through some of the new features for you”

MapPoint 2010 Features

August 17th, 2009 · Uncategorized

According to early descriptions…

  • Create maps using custom Map Settings to display your data with only the details you want to appear. Easily turn labels on or off, change font style or map style.
  • Dramatically improve decision-making by bringing clarity to tabular data.
  • Use information-rich maps to illuminate important data relationships, identify business trends, and illustrate opportunities.
  • Create sales territories and share performance maps to clearly visualize, analyze, and communicate business information.
  • Combine business data with included demographics to target potential customers and focus decisions.

The usual stuff except did you catch that — “… only the details you want to appear. Easily turn labels on or off… ” !?!?

If that means what I think it does, that’s going to be a very welcome feature!

MapPoint 2010 Release

August 13th, 2009 · Uncategorized

Still no news about MapPoint 2010 since Chris Pendleton mentioned it in a blog post a couple weeks ago… Normally it would show up on online retail sites about three or four months (or at least two months) before it was to be shipping.

MapPoint 2010

August 8th, 2009 · Uncategorized

Chris Pendleton mentioned “MapPoint 2010″ in a recent blog posting, although no details were shared.

http://www.mapforums.com/olap-spatial-data-import-com-add-ins-fixed-mappoint-10872.html

This is off the top of my head, but here’s the release dates I remember for the past several releases…

  • MapPoint 2002 – mid 2001
  • MapPoint 2004 – mid 2003
  • MapPoint 2006 - early 2006
  • MapPoint 2009 – mid 2008

I could be wrong on some of those times, but you get the idea. Microsoft has been coming out with new releases of MapPoint every two to two and a half years. Naming the next release MapPoint 2010 implies they are coming out with an update faster this time. Even if MapPoint 2010 comes out in early 2010, that is still less than two years since the previous release. On the other hand, originally I think Microsoft had been referring to the current version as MapPoint 2008, but ended up calling the release MapPoint 2009. Perhaps they will change and call the next version MapPoint 2011. Anyway, this is all conjecture, will share more news as it comes out!
